Beverly's Rib Lake, Wisconsin, nursing home earns award for employment practices
May 16, 2002

(MADISON, Wis., May 16, 2002) -- Rib Lake Health Care Center in Rib Lake, Wis., a Beverly nursing home, was one of 10 Wisconsin businesses that earned the Governor's Award for outstanding employment practices. Executive Director Jean Richert and Director of Nursing Services Nancy Jarchow accepted the award from Lt. Gov. Margaret Farrow today during the ninth annual statewide Governor's Workforce Development Conference. The theme of this year's conference was "Providing Education, Motivation, Networking, Strategies and Solutions."

Over the last two years, Rib Lake Health Care Center actively recruited and hired numerous low-income individuals with little to no work experience. Rib Lake associates took the time to offer extra support and training to those people, many of whom have turned their lives around as a result. As an example, Lena, a Russian immigrant with a medical background, spoke very little English and had a difficult time finding employment. The staff at Rib Lake took her in, helped her with her English, trained her and then hired her as a certified nursing assistant.

Other Wisconsin employers who earned the Governor's Award were Trane Federal Credit Union, Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital, Cameo Nursing Home, American LaFrance - Shawano Facility, the Martin Petersen Company, Wisconsin Plastics Inc., Blackstone Consulting Inc., Rockline Industries - Sheboygan, and Diversified Assembly Technologies Corporation of Necedah.
