Golden Living

Dr. Ed McMahon Supports Golden Living as the National Director of Quality. His primary role is leading the company’s quality improvement efforts and coaching the company in the principles of performance excellence as espoused by the Malcolm Baldrige Quality award. He also focuses on program development and the education of those involved in providing care directly to our residents in Alzheimer’s Care Units, as well as the entire resident population with regard to quality of life. In this capacity he is the “go to” person for social services, activities and mental health. He spearheads the culture change movement and Golden’s Cultivating Community program.  He also has coordinated NIH/NIA grant studies and 14 collaborative studies with institutes of higher learning such as the universities of Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Arkansas and Oregon Applied Sciences.  Dr. McMahon began working with Beverly in 2000 and continues with Golden Living through the present.

Dr. McMahon began his career in long-term care as a nursing assistant on the night shift while he was finishing his doctoral studies.  He has 30 years experience in the post acute care profession in Alzheimer’s care development, research and development, sales and marketing, and operations. He was CEO of a multi-facility chain headquartered in California. He has served in many senior leadership roles throughout his career.  Dr. McMahon was a pioneer in the development of special care units within the skilled nursing facility.  He designed and developed the first Alzheimer’s Care Unit within a skilled nursing facility in the state of California. He serves or has served on several boards that support the Skilled nursing profession, including the AHCA board of overseers, the ASCP foundation board, the advisory board of NAAP and others.  He is a much sought after speaker for national, state and local associations and has frequently been asked to key note conferences on many diverse topics.

Dr. McMahon is a clinical psychologist and has degrees in modern languages and Asian History. He is also a licensed nursing home administrator.  He has studied at Seton Hall University, the University of Madrid, Stanford University and Psychological Studies Institute.
